Pinterest is stepping into the holiday shopping season with a splash, unveiling over 1,000 curated gift guides and rolling out shoppable wishlists to attract gift-givers. Announced Tuesday, the new features aim to position Pinterest as the go-to platform for festive inspiration and shopping convenience.
Gift Guides Backed by Star Power
The platform’s latest holiday push includes curated lists by celebrities and creators like Alicia Keys, RuPaul, and Emma Chamberlain. Their contributions are part of nearly 40,000 gift ideas across categories like beauty, travel, and gaming. Pinterest has also teamed up with publishers like Vogue and Wirecutter, spotlighting brands such as Savage x Fenty, Carhartt, and REI.
Users can take advantage of a new “quick save” feature, allowing them to pin gift ideas from guides directly to their shoppable wishlists. A fresh “holiday finds” tab further personalizes the shopping experience by presenting a tailored feed of gift suggestions and ideas.
Building on Past Success
This isn’t Pinterest’s first holiday shopping initiative. In 2022, the platform introduced its “Shop the Holidays” event on Pinterest TV, enabling shoppers to buy directly from showcased brands. Last year, it collaborated with Anthropologie to create a shoppable holiday-themed home in Brooklyn Heights, New York, blending online and offline shopping experiences.
Enhanced Shopping Features Drive Growth
In recent years, Pinterest has focused on making its app more shoppable and attractive to advertisers. Last September, it added direct links to brand websites, mobile deep links, and improved catalog management tools for businesses. These upgrades align with its mission to simplify the customer journey from inspiration to purchase.
This strategy is paying off. In its Q3 2024 earnings report, Pinterest revealed an 18% revenue increase year-over-year, totaling $898 million. The platform also grew its monthly active users by 11% to 537 million.
AI and Personalization at the Core
“Our AI investments are driving results by powering better personalized experiences and greater performance for advertisers,” Pinterest CEO Bill Ready shared in the earnings release. He emphasized the growing reliance of advertisers on Pinterest to connect with an expanding audience seeking inspiration and seamless shopping options.
With its celebrity-backed gift guides and new shoppable features, Pinterest is looking to redefine how consumers approach holiday gifting this year.
